An illustration of Isaiah walking along the castle to deliver another prophecy.

The Reason

I've done a couple of chapter studies on Isaiah before, but now it seems that I'll be doing more. So I thought it would be good to have a single location where they could all be found.

Synopsis

How can anyone hope to summarize 66 chapters of Isaiah? I won't even try. Instead I'll talk about the failure of the major commentaries to correctly interpret Isaiah.

When I began the bulk of the commentaries above, I began using the words "Churchianity" and "Churchians" to describe the failure of Christianity. This failure is now so complete and its people so blind that they cannot see that Isaiah tells them how terrible they are. This is to be expected of course. Israel was in exactly the same position When Jesus came. They had misunderstood what Isaiah said about the Messiah so badly that they missed him and killed him.

From the perspective of Churchianity, there are three major prophetic events, which are also historical events.

We see this thinking in a quote about the organization of the chapters in Isaiah.

The book is often analyzed in two main parts: Chapters 1–39 (focusing on judgment and the historical context of Assyria) and Chapters 40–66 (focusing on comfort, restoration, and Babylon (Some AI)

They see it as being focused on the Assyrian attack and the Babylonian attack, with comfort and restoration coming in the form of Jesus' first coming. They also see Isaiah as being focused on the Jews of those times, but Isaiah's words have value to us in our time. Therefore, where I've sorted the books by topic above, I've chosen the topic that has the most value to us.

Churchianity tries to force fit everything Isaiah says into these events. Only if they can't make a fit, do they say that it must be describing some future event. There is no agreement, however, on what those future events are or the order in which they occur. An author will say which authors believe this and which believe that and then say where he stands. These battlelines have been in place for centuries without any progress and the Spirit is showing them nothing.

In the case of one event, the understanding of it is so profoundly lacking in Churchianity, that I am convinced the Spirit is witholding it from them. Because of that, when Isaiah speaks about it, my interpretation sticks to the words of Isaiah without providing the larger context that I could provide.
